The Rise of Functional Seltzers

A few years ago, seltzer was just bubbles and flavor. Then something shifted.

People started wanting more from what they drank. Not just refreshment, but function. Not just a buzz, but a better feeling. That’s where functional seltzers came in.

Functional seltzers are sparkling drinks infused with ingredients like adaptogens, nootropics, vitamins, and natural caffeine sources. The goal isn’t to overwhelm your system. It’s to support how you already function by providing focus, clarity, mood, and steady energy, without alcohol or harsh stimulants.

Why now?

Because modern consumers are tired. Not sleepy tired — decision tired. Too much caffeine, too much sugar, too little benefit. Alcohol stopped feeling worth it. Energy drinks feel aggressive. And plain sparkling water just doesn’t cut it.

Functional seltzers sit right in the middle because they’re:

• Alcohol-free
• Easy to drink socially
• Designed to do something, not just taste good

They fit into workdays, workouts, music festivals, social nights, and mornings after nights out. That flexibility is exactly why the category is growing fast.

Brands like HITS exist because people want drinks that feel intentional. Something that tastes familiar, feels balanced, and doesn’t hijack your nervous system. Something that hits just right.

Functional seltzers are the new ritual.
